Supper at Eight: S'mores Platter

A big welcome to Kehani from Supper at Eight, who is our guest food blogger this week! She prepared a yummy (and fancy) 4th of July s'mores platter for us to drool over and enjoy! Can't wait to try this! 

Nothing is more 4th of July than fireworks, your loved ones, and s'mores.

S'mores are the perfect way to end the day celebrating our independence, all while standing around a fire roasting the toastiest mallows of the bunch!

Though, these days, I must admit that when eating an oozing marshmallow stuffed in between two crumbly graham crackers along with a chocolate bar that is beginning to melt... well... stuffing that delectable trio in your mouth just doesn't seem as graceful as it might have been when you were 7.

So I have come up with a more lady-like/adult friendly alternative way to serve this treat!

You will need:

1/2 a bag of medium sized Marshmallows

Heavy Whipping Cream

Cool Whip

Vanilla Extract

Sweet French Baguette

Chocolate Bar of your choice

Butter

Cinnamon

Let's begin! First make sure your Cool Whip is set out on the counter to defrost a bit.

Grab a pan and barely cover the bottom of it with heavy whipping cream and bring it to a simmer. While you're waiting for your cream to heat up, go ahead and give your mallows a rough chop and whisk into your simmering cream, along with 1/2 a tsp of vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth. Take off the burner and let sit for a few minutes to cool down while you plop your softened cool whip into a mixing bowl.

Gently fold in your mallow mixture into the cool whip, adding it in slowly. You may not need to use the entire mallow mix. The mallow & cool whip need to be folded until they are evenly blended. Once you have accomplished this, go ahead and cover and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Onto the next; shave away at your favorite chocolate bar, a potato peeler works just fine.

Lastly, for the graham cracker effect, you will want to use a sweet french bread. The bakery or market you are buying it from should happily slice it for you upon request. Melt some butter and mix in some cinnamon. Brush onto your bread slices, lay on a buttered pan and bake at 375 degrees for 5-7 minutes.

K-tip: whether you're serving this dish elsewhere or in your home, prepping in the following order is best: chocolate shavings, mallow mix, and then the crostinis. Make sure to do all of this as close to your serving time as you can. Also note, if you feel that your kitchen is warmer than usual, please store your shaved chocolate in the fridge so it doesn't melt and clump together.

And what do you know...

The way you would eat this is not rocket science, your 7 year old self could have surely figured it out.

 

Now you can enjoy the same deliciousness and you don't need to worry about waiting anxiously over the smoky fire for your mallow to be perfectly creamy...

Since it already is.

And best part is, you're not a kiddo anymore and won't have your mother hovering over making sure you don't go overboard with the sweets... because now you do that for you. Some things never change.
